Most religions teach the existence of a god who tests people:
The Jewish god tested Abraham to see if he would cut off the tip of his wiener. Allah tests Muslims by taking away their money and health. Kami test Shintoists by challenging them to participate in Pokemon battles.
And (apparently) the Christian god tests beauty pageant contestants by forcing Perez Hilton to ask them what they think about gay marriage:
On how she’s feeling: Happy. This happened for a reason. By having to answer that question in front of a national audience, God was testing my character and faith. I’m glad I stayed true to myself.
Now, as tests go, this is a pretty mild one. In today’s political climate, having to admit that you agree with Barack Obama is not exactly a searing form of self-indictment.
Nonetheless, if she believes that the words and actions of Perez Hilton are best explained as the influence of an “all-powerful,” “all-knowing,” “all-good” god, I’m glad she lost.
